Edgewalkers - Ryza

A snowy forest lays tranquil in the morning hours. Sheets of frost lay on the ground like a blanket, completely undisturbed. In the distance, a towering city can be seen and its promises of warmth and shelter prove to be irresistible for most travelers. All of this is lost on the girl as she desperately runs through the woods. For her, the city is merely a hiding place for the vicious beast that had held her captive for so long. Through some fluke she had escaped its grasp and now fled with all the speed of prey. She is too scared to look back and continues running, whether her pursuers exist or not. As the woods thicken and the day grows darker, the girl finally begins to slow down as fatigue overwhelms her. Before she can plot her next step, thick arms envelop her small frame, picking her up despite her protests. She screams at being thwarted and begins to sob at the thought of returning to her previous home. Before she can put any plan into motion, the man mutters and all is dark.

Been Busy, HP7

Midterms kept me really busy and then an army of small but mighty mites decided to attack my health. Had the worst headaches ever the past few days.

Anyway, HP7 was absolutely amazing! I can't wait till the next part! I can't express how much I admire JK Rowling's abilities. (but I would have to include a bit of envy)

Hydra II

"Congratulations Dr. Plutarch, you've found sextuplets. Now where is this project that'll help me protect the free world?"

The doctor snorted, but before he could say anything else the boy smirked. Suddenly, there were almost twenty teenagers in the room. Before the President could respond, there was only one smug and self-satisfied teenager who gave a mocking bow.

"I think I could protect a couple free worlds, don't you?"

Now that I've established myself as being the coolest thing ever, let me introduce myself. My codename is Hydra and as far as I know it's the only name I have. I've been cooped up in this facility for as long as I can remember. It's just me and a few scientists. Once you've seen the base, you're not allowed back up for anything unless you're Plutarch. But we'll get to him later.

I've never known my parents, or if I even have any. All I know is, I'm definitely not normal. As you've seen, I can make copies of myself. It's pretty cool though because I also duplicate anything I'm holding. It's pretty convenient because otherwise I'd make a whole ton of naked and embarrassed clones. Eggheads down here still haven't quite figured that one out yet. The best part of this is that my clones making learning basically anything a breeze Any skills my clones pick up come straight back to me once I reabsorb them. I've learned quite a few languages, studied countless subjects, but the best part was all the spy training. They've spent years crafting me into the perfect weapon. And now they've finally decided to unleash me on the world.

Well there's that. It's kind of a meh post, but we'll see if it gets better or if I come up with a new idea next time.

Hydra

Too tired to write a full post. I've got a good one though.

For the first time in his life, the man feels fidgety. He has spoken in front of hundreds of thousands of people, fended off critics, and won against overwhelming odds, and yet this whole affair made him feel like a kindergartner who got off the wrong bus and ended up at a high school.

"Calm yourself" he said. "It would help if this elevator ride wasn't so ridiculously long," he thought.

It HAD been a long elevator ride. He had been instructed to come alone and after all of the claims had been verified he had complied. He had not expected to be led to a dilapidated building, which was clearly past its prime. It might have been beautiful once and hints of columns and pediments peeked through the decay. Inside, the building was unexpectedly clean and an elevator entrance had been obvious and apparent. The inside of the elevator was sleek and modern and as soon as he had stepped in, the lights had turned on and the elevator had begun its swift journey into the dark depths. He readjusted his suit and made sure his pin was on straight. Finally, the elevator seemed to be slowing down. The doors slid open quickly and the man found a strange individual waiting for him. The stranger was obviously a scientist; his white lab coat and wild hair marked him as such. His hair was dark and he seemed altogether except for his eyes which seemed to burn with an intense light. It was hard to say whether this light showed madness or passion.

"Mr. President, we're glad you came! I apologize for the cryptic message."

The President frowned. The message had been more than cryptic. It had contained codes so top secret that even the President had to be informed of their meaning.

"Of course I came, your message promised that you had the answer to all of our national security problems hidden away in this bunker of yours, Doctor...?"

"Dr. Plutarch. And we call this lovely facility Tartarus. The reason I called you down here was to meet the Hydra Operative."

"The who?"

"You'll see," said Plutarch with concealed glee. Or was it gloating? It was hard to say.

As they walked, the President questioned the scientist.

"How long has this little project been going for?"

"About 18 years give or take."

"And no one in the public knows at all?"

"Nobody knows about it at all. Period. Even you are the first president to know since the project was proposed."

"Why so secret?" The President was slightly uneasy about this government facility which for all intents and purposes did not exist. He had run on a platform based on transparency.

"Compromising the Hydra Operative's identity before he was ready would've ruined everything."

"Just who and what is-"

He was cut off as they came to a door.

"Hydra, we've got an illustrious guest here today! It's the President."

The door swung open and the President couldn't help but feel confused and maybe like he had been pranked for standing in front of him was what appeared to be a regular teenager who had just finished watching TV. But what was remarkable was the five identical teenagers standing behind him. Wearing the exact same clothes and holding the exact same TV remote.

I'm done with this one for today, but will add more tomorrow. I was really tired so the writing might not be great. I'm not sure how much I want to write for this particular idea, but it seems to have much more to give than my other ideas so far.

Killer Efficiency

First off, www.hyperboleandahalf.com

Best way to kill time ever. Absolutely hilarious and spazzy. Just like me. (highlights being the cake and fish post)

Anyway, onto our scheduled programming.

"You're breaking up with me!?" she screamed at her phone.

Zoey is furious beyond all comprehension. She thought things had been going great! She had finally gotten him to kiss her at the meteor shower after years of crushing on him. It certainly didn't help that he was her next door neighbor. She had spent most of eighth, ninth, and tenth grade living in constant fear of the friend zone as they hung out almost every day. He, blissfully aware, while she suffered silently behind her smiles. And even after he finally kissed her, it had taken him weeks to actually ask her out! Weeks! How stupid could a guy get? Obviously really stupid if he's going to break up with a super awesome girl (such as herself) after two whole months of going out. Two WHOLE months.

He muttered some condolences gargled by nerves and static which made it sound like he might've actually explained his reasons during her furious tangent,. (Not that they really mattered)

Then he said the words that brought her out of her raging reverie. That fatal sentence that ends with "just friends." Without thinking she screams "I wish you would just drop dead!"

There's a thump on the other side of the line.

"JD?...."

"Totally not funny man, I'm sorry I didn't mean it I was just upset."

"Hello??"

"We can be just (she chokes a little) friends if you want!"

"JD?"

She hears her call echoed by a familiar matronly voice. Then a scream.

Her phone slowly somersaults through the air as her fingers lose the will to hold it. She can feel the blood leave her face, retreating deep within her, taking her mind with it.

What had she done?

So yeah! Girl character! Woohoo!

It was slightly different writing her and if anyone is unhappy at all with the portrayal, I'm open to opinions. So go go go.

Timeless Questions

So I reread the post yesterday, and I thought it would be good to actually lay down some more ground rules for that one.

The character is functionally immortal. He cannot die by regular means (that's what I meant by the Four Riders line) and does not age. His body can basically repair any damage done to it, albeit not at a superhuman rate. The big question about regenerators/immortals is always dismemberment. He can regrow any body part given enough time. I thought about doing something more supernatural, like having dismembered parts dissolve and reform on his body, but eh.

As to why he's immortal, I've been thinking of it as a crazy random genetic quirk. His parents were just regular people who had a immortal baby. Go figure. "But Max", you ask, "Wouldn't his kids possibly inherit his mutation?" In response, I'll stroke my goatee and cackle.

Now, being alive for that long leads to certain characteristics. At a certain point, pain just becomes commonplace and as a result he is largely desensitized to physical pain. He doesn't need to eat or sleep to stay alive, but he still does it so that he can feel at less a little human. He loves fresh fruit more than anything else. (He spent a few years on the sea where he learned that just cause you can't die doesn't make scurvy suck any less.) He is also a smart motherfucker. Years of learning and witnessing have made him clever and given him a brilliant grasp of tactics not to mention a command of most languages. Also, physiologically, neurons continue forming new pathways throughout your lifetime. For most people, this isn't a huge deal. But when you live for hundreds and hundreds of years...those new pathways add up.

My intention for this character was for him to be a tragic villain. Over the years he has settled down and built families countless times, even though he knows he will lose them, either to war or disease, or because he'll have to move on before they notice. For the most part, he tries to keep his immortality to himself so he has to conceal his true nature. Add this to all the countless barbarism he's seen people commit on other people simply because of a difference in color or creed. At a certain point, a person can only take so much psychological beating. The final nail in the coffin of his sanity came with Emma who is obviously someone very important in his life. For now, that's all I'm willing to say. Regardless, at this point, he wants to die. Prior to the introduction, he has attempted to kill himself in every way he can imagine, but cannot find a permanent solution. Crazed and desperate, he decides to challenge the human race to find a way to kill him. And let's just say that he doesn't ask nicely.

No new character today, sorry. I might start posting settings/plots/general ideas. I also want to eventually write a girl character introduction, which should be a fun challenge.

Max out.

New Chapters

Another character intro, unrelated to the previous one.

He hated living. Every minute was a torture unimaginable. He doubted anything on the planet wanted to die more than he. But he couldn't. He was tragically chained to the monstrous thing known as life. Everyday, the sun would wake and mock him as it dredged across the sky.

He had been born beyond the touch for the Four Riders. Death, Pestilence, War, and Famine. None could touch him. By the time he was in his mid-twenties he realized the depth of his burden. At that time, he had no roots. He had never known his parents and love was still unknown to him. Realizing his gift, he left his home in London and travelled the newly established Silk Road. He spent years just wandering, experiencing countless civilizations. Some would only live on in his memory as the rest of the world forgot. This was when his curse had seemed like a gift. It seemed like a genuine opportunity to do right by the world. But nature abhors an abomination and fate had nothing but cruelty lying in wait for him. The one thing his countless years could not teach him was to guard his heart. He loved. He loved more than any other man before him because he understood it more than anyone else possibly could. But the cold world's practicality tore him from his family each and every time. Each time, a little bit of his humanity sunk into the abyss where his body could not follow.

He just couldn't take it anymore.

"No more. Please God no more!" he screamed, cursing the being who gave him this blighted existence. His handsome face twisted into a savage grin. "They'll have to find a way to kill me. Someone will find a way. After all...nothing motivates the human race like the fear of death." He pushed the button.

Screams of the innocent filled the air. Inhuman sounds wracked his frame. Half laugh, half sob. He couldn't help but envy them their painful ends.

He just couldn't start anymore new chapters. Not after Emma.
